At New Directions, we understand that entering treatment or supporting a loved one through recovery can feel overwhelming. To help, we’ve compiled answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question here, please contact us directly — we’re here to support you.

Days are full at New Directions. We strive to provide you with the tools you need to become clean and sober and resist relapse. You will be paired with an experienced counselor familiar with the feelings and challenges you may face when beginning treatment. You will receive support from staff and fellow residents and soon feel at home.

Laundry equipment and detergent are available free of charge.

Phones are provided at no cost for incoming or outgoing calls, with no blackout period for communication. Personal cell phones are not permitted.

TV is available during non-treatment times.

Food: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided daily, along with free coffee. Fruit and snacks are also available between meals. Food and other items may be delivered on Wednesdays.

Valuables: Valuable items should not be brought to treatment

For both men and women, exercise equipment is available.
Activities include:

  • Ping pong
  • Cornhole
  • Other recreation equipment
  • Monthly outings (such as bowling)

New Directions serves adult men and women from San Joaquin County who are seeking recovery and stability.

Partnerships and Referrals

  • California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR): Contracts with New Directions to provide treatment beds for parolees with long-term substance use and criminal histories. Offering treatment in place of incarceration has proven both more effective and cost-efficient.

  • Parole Placements: Individuals on parole are referred by their parole agents.

  • Grant-Funded Placements: Eligible individuals may self-refer through available grant programs.

  • Court and Agency Referrals: Participants may also be referred by the San Joaquin County Parole Reentry Drug Court, Post Release Court Supervision Program, or Child Protective Services (CPS). Many CPS referrals are parents actively working to regain custody of their children.

Community Collaboration

New Directions has a long-standing partnership with WestCare of Fresno, California, providing residential and outpatient treatment services for their clients.

We are a zero-tolerance facility which means that any use or possession of drugs or alcohol will result in immediate termination.

Any kind of threats to either participants or staff will result in termination.

Persons who must register as a 290 offender or register for arson offenses are not eligible to enter the program.

Participants must undergo random testing for drugs and alcohol. This includes breathalyzing every time a participant returns to the program from an outside appointment. In the case of a positive test result, the participant will be required to leave.

Interactions between male and female participants is prohibited.
